I’ve Been Featured: Blue Nose Marathon

As you know, I’m running the Blue Nose Marathon this year and I’m doing it as a part of Team Myles. I’m very proud and honored to have been asked to be the “blogging coordinator” for Team Myles as well as to be training as a member of the team.  We’ve been running twice a week for the past 3 weeks and we’re all making great progress so far.  The best part is that starting next week the team will each have their own blogs and will be blogging about their own personal experiences as members of Team Myles.

Besides the personal gratification of being a part of Team Myles, there has also been a great bonus for me and Your Inner Skinny; I’ve been getting some press and attention from local media here in Halifax.

Wednesday I was featured in the Blue Nose Marathon Newsletter, which you can read below, and on Thursday, February 3rd at 7:30pm I’ll be in  short feature about blogging and running and weight loss on the tv show “The Fax” which is broadcast on Eastlink television.  I have no idea how I did on camera or how long the actual segment is, but my interviewer, Meaghan Philpott, did an amazing job and made me feel very comfortable so I’m EXTREMELY excited for my first TV appearance!

So, please read the little feature below about me and Team Myles and tune in tonight to Eastlink TV at 7:30pm Atlantic time to watch my TV debut.

For all of my non-Eastern Canadian friends and readers (this may even only be viewable in Nova Scotia), you will be able to see tonight’s episode on The Fax website on Friday and once I get a copy, I’ll be posting it on here as well and I’ll let you know when it’s up.

I REALLY want to thank everyone for being so supportive of me and Your Inner Skinny over the past year and a bit, and I’m asking you to please keep reading and commenting and to cross your fingers for me as  I’m trying to make Your Inner Skinny even bigger and better every day.

Meet Team Myles: Scott Thomson

Like so many of us, Scott Thomson constantly sets goals for himself, and is disappointed when he doesn’t achieve them. Last year, for example, he planned to participate in the Blue Nose Marathon for the first time, but a motorcycle injury forced him to withdraw.

This year will be a different story. Thomson, who maintains a healthy living website and blog called Your InnerSkinny.ca, is a member of Team Myles. All members of the team set a goal, train for the event and blog their progress along the way until the big day.

“They approached me to be the team’s technical blogging coordinator,” explains Thomson. “I hadn’t heard of Team Myles before, but once I knew what it was, I signed on. I always wanted to be a long-distance runner, and I thought this would be a perfect way to get started because of the support and training we’re going to get.”

As a self-proclaimed newbie, Thomson admits he’s never run more than 3km without stopping to walk. With Team Myles training, he hopes that, eventually, he will be able to run 10k in an hour without stopping at all.

For anyone thinking about participating in the event for the first time, Thomson has two words of advice: do it. “Find a person or a group of people to train with and get out there. I’ve heard from other participants there are few things more satisfying than finishing your first race. I hope this is true!”
